Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most difficult but favored poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in popularity so quickly.
Omaha hi lo begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A round of wagering follows where players can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of betting ensues. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of betting ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers must attempt to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where some entrants often get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the best hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same approach in nearly every poker game.
A low hand is more difficult, but really free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem difficult at first, following a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental subtleties of the game with ease. Since you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha hi-low provides an exciting assortment of betting options and seeing that you have numerous individuals trying for the high hand, as well as several trying for the low hand.
