Internet Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He won a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest players around the world. While gambling on web poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I think television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world could be players you have never heard about. Gus can be seen participating in web poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money games?
