Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to achieve final table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While gambling on net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world might be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in big stakes omaha/8 and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in money rounds?
