Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
