Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve final table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest gamblers around the world. While competing in web poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amt.. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players anywhere in the world might just be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in big stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
