Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
