NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

[ English ]

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from others kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
