Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the last game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best bettors anywhere in the world. While betting on net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I think tv can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world could be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found wagering on internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes omaha high and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in money rounds?
