Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the final poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors around the world. While participating in net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly competes in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to play at the game with the min buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world may be players you have never heard about. Gus can be seen playing web poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in big stakes omaha hi-low and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
