Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the last table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest enthusiasts in the world. While participating in web poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world could be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be seen playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in money rounds?
