Howard Lederer lived in a family of five in which he liked taking part in different card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming really competitive in these particular card games as he was competing against his dad. After finishing secondary school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a little while and headed to New York to compete in some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were tough as he would play many hours and lose a majority of the time. He earned some additional money by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he could better his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He made an attempt to get more sleep and focus even more on poker.

The definite advancement in his abilities happened when he began wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would frequently challenge each other. Howard had access into a number of the best minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would sharpen his logical thinking techniques. Howard used these strategy concepts in the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.

Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of the game as she would always be asking questions about how to make the correct decision. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie is one of the strongest female players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard headed to Las Vegas in 1993 and played money games for the successive decade. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
