Gaming chips have been manufactured from a wide range of materials in an almost infinite selection of variations since the advent of gambling and the need to keep track of winnings. The most commonly used materials used at present in the creation of new poker chips are plastic, clay, and acrylic composite. Clay chips, the primary of the group, have been manufactured in America since the late 19th century.
Back in the 19th century, poker enthusiasts seemed to use any small valuable object imaginable. Early poker enthusiasts sometimes used rough gold pieces along with chips – mainly made of wood and clay. By the 20th century, poker chip designs began to employ a greater prominence, and the smooth edges of older chips were given up to chips with ridges to hold them neatly arranged together.
There is little or no doubt that poker has gotten bigger constantly in popularity ever since its beginnings in the 19th century. With the explosive growth of internet gaming and specialty television shows, public interest in poker has feed the fire more rapidly than ever before. Many individuals are initially introduced to poker by TV showssuch as Bravo’s "Celebrity Poker Showdown" or the Travel Channel’s "World Poker Tour," and most will participate in their first hands on the internet. Regardless of online poker’s growth, not much replaces the feeling of mixing weighty poker chips in your hand, tossing chips into the center of a casino table, or stacking high pilesstacks of chips after displaying a victorious hand.
