Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he liked playing different card games when he was young. He found himself getting really aggressive in these particular card games while competing against his father. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable players would frequently play against one another. Howard was able to access several of the greatest players in chess. Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke learn poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct decision. Howard told Annie to head out to Vegas and compete in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the greatest women players the poker world ever. He moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and played cash games for the subsequent decade. When the WPT gained popularity, he made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
